Student Visa in Malaysia

Student Visa in Malaysia

Indian students planning to study in Malaysia must obtain a Student Pass (Student Visa) before commencing their studies. The application process is simple and is primarily handled through the Malaysian educational institution where the student has been admitted.

Requirements for a Malaysian Student Visa

Applicants are generally required to submit the following documents:
  • Completed and signed the Student Visa (Student Pass) application form.
  • Offer/Acceptance Letter from a Malaysian educational institution approved by the Immigration Department of Malaysia.
  • Two recent passport-sized photographs.
  • Two photocopies of a valid passport.
  • Academic transcripts and certificates.
  • Proof of enrolment in a full-time course approved by the Malaysian authorities.
  • Proof of sufficient financial resources to cover tuition fees and living expenses.
  • Medical (Health) Certificate.
  • Evidence of security and personal bond (if required by the institution).
  • Student Pass Approval Letter, which must be presented upon arrival in Malaysia.

Steps to Apply for a Malaysian Student Visa

  1. Apply to a Malaysian Institution: Students must first secure admission to a recognized Malaysian educational institution. The institution will assist with the Student Pass application.
Note: Your passport should be valid for at least one year. Applications may not be processed if the passport has a shorter validity.
  2. Wait for the Acceptance Confirmation: After reviewing the application, the Malaysian Immigration Department informs the institution of the application status. The approval notification is generally issued within 7 working days, although timelines may vary.
  3. Submit the Required Documents: Once admission is confirmed, students must submit all the required visa documents to their educational institution for Student Pass processing.
  4. Receive the Student Pass Approval Letter: After the application is approved, the Malaysian Immigration Department issues a Student Pass Approval Letter, which is sent to the educational institution. The institution will then forward this letter to the student.
  5. Inform Your Institution Before Arrival: Before travelling to Malaysia, students should notify their institution of the flight number, Airline, Arrival date, Arrival time, and airport of arrival.
A representative from the institution will usually assist the student at the immigration checkpoint upon arrival. The visa endorsement will then be placed in the student’s passport.
  6. Receive the Student Pass Sticker: Within approximately two weeks after arrival, the student’s passport will be submitted to the Immigration Department, where the official Student Pass sticker will be affixed.
