About University of Roehampton

University of Roehampton is a public university. It is constituted with an unusual structure. It runs a collegiate system, with four historic colleges: Whitelands (founded in 1841), Digby Stuart (1874), Froebel (1892), and Southlands each functioning as a smaller community within the wider framework of the university. More than 11,000 students study here, from over 140 countries; this diversity represents culturalism. 77% of the research submitted by Roehampton to REF 2021 was rated world-leading or internationally excellent, an 11-point jump from the previous assessment in 2014, and the university holds a TEF Silver rating specifically for high-quality teaching and learning, awarded in 2023. This page works through what that actually means for an Indian applicant: the courses, the real fee ranges, and whether Roehampton’s specific strengths line up with what you’re applying for.

  • Esports Scholarship: The Roehampton Esports Scholarship offers up to 20 scholarships worth £2,000 per year. University of Roehampton Eligibility & Admission Requirements

Admission requirements at the University of Roehampton vary according to the programme and level of study. Applicants generally need appropriate academic qualifications, along with proof of English-language proficiency where required. Additional requirements may apply to specific courses, including portfolios, interviews or relevant experience.

Bachelor’s Degree

  • For Class 12 (CBSE, ISC, or a recognised state board), a typical requirement is an aggregate of 60%.
  • English proficiency evidence, unless a recognised Class 12 waiver applies.
  • A UCAS application; you can apply to up to five undergraduate courses without additional fees.
  • Specific subjects (nursing, dance, and some education routes) may require additional documentation, an audition, or an interview.

Master’s Degree

  • A bachelor’s degree with a UK 2:2 equivalent or above (roughly 50% second-division result from a recognised Indian university).
  • IELTS 6.5 overall with no component below 5.5 for most taught postgraduate courses: Clinical Nutrition specifically requires 6.0 in each component rather than 5.5, and Adult Nursing sits higher still at 7.0 overall.
  • No GMAT or GRE is required for the MBA, and work experience is preferred but not mandatory
  • Academic transcripts, a personal statement, and two references.

University of Roehampton English Proficiency requirements

  • Undergraduate courses: IELTS 6.0 overall, no component below 5.5 (Nutrition and Health-related degrees require 6.5 overall with 6.0 minimum per component).
  • Postgraduate courses: IELTS 6.5 overall, no component below 5.5 (Clinical Nutrition requires 6.0 minimum per component instead).
  • Adult Nursing: IELTS 7.0 overall, with 7.0 in reading, listening, and speaking, and 6.5 in writing, the highest bar on the standard course list.
  • Research degrees: IELTS 7.0 overall, minimum 6.5 in each component.
  • Indian applicants with strong Class 12 English marks (around 70%) may qualify for an English test waiver on many courses, worth checking with the India office before booking a test.
  • Duolingo, TOEFL iBT (80 for undergraduate, 89 for postgraduate), PTE Academic, and Roehampton’s own English Language Test and KITE Test are all accepted alternatives to IELTS.

How to Apply to University of Roehampton from India

Roehampton runs its India admissions through a dedicated India office, which changes the practical shape of applying compared to a university with only a central international team. Pre-CAS support and document guidance are available closer to home than at universities without that regional presence.
  • Confirm your specific course’s entry requirements, fee, and intake, since these vary enough by subject that a general figure isn’t reliable.
  • Apply through UCAS for undergraduate courses (up to five choices, no extra fee per course), or directly through Roehampton’s own portal for postgraduate study.
  • Submit transcripts, a personal statement, English proficiency evidence (or your Class 12 waiver documentation), and references.
  • If you’re targeting the International Excellence Scholarship, check whether it requires a separate application or is assessed automatically alongside your course application; confirm this with the India office directly, since scholarship processes can differ from the general admissions timeline.
  • Once your offer is confirmed and any deposit paid, you’ll receive your CAS for the Student visa application.
  • Apply for accommodation early: Roehampton guarantees a place for new international students who apply and accept their offer before the August deadline, which is a meaningfully useful safety net in a city where student housing is otherwise competitive.

University of Roehampton Student life Experiences

Roehampton’s student life runs on a genuinely different rhythm than the London universities:
  • The university organises Union Bar karaoke nights, formal welcome dinners to kick off the year, Varsity sports competitions between colleges, and RoeFest, an on-campus festival marking the end of the academic year.
  • The university’s Chaplaincy runs events across Holi, Eid, Christmas, and Passover, treating religious and cultural diversity as something to actively celebrate rather than passively accommodate a detail worth noting given how many Indian students specifically look for that kind of recognition.
  • First-year students get paired with a mentor through the RoeBuddies scheme, covering everything from time management to budgeting and stress management, with tailored guidance for international students specifically.
  • Beyond campus, the parkland setting next to Richmond Park is a genuine point of difference: a 15-minute walk gets you into open countryside with deer, rather than another stretch of city street, while Putney and central London remain a short journey away by public transport.

Why Study at University of Roehampton?

Set the global rankings aside, and the case rests on a genuinely different set of evidence:
  • The university stands among the top-3- contested institutions in London when it comes to student satisfaction.
  • Department for Education’s own outcomes data backs up the claim that a Roehampton degree translates into above-average salary growth.
  • Its  collegiate structure gives new students a gateway to a different community from day one,
  • It provides a genuinely accessible entry bar for students who want a London postcode without a Russell Group admissions bar.
