Courses
The university currently delivers education to around 15000 undergraduate and 10000 postgraduate students. Over 30000 people take part in continuing education and professional development progrmammes. The university is organized into 5 major faculties as under:
- Strathclyde Business School: It is a leading business school that provides undergraduate & postgraduate degrees in Accounting and finance, Economics, Human Resource Management, Management, Management science and Marketing. In addition, it has a European Policies Research Centre and Hunter Centre for Entrepreneurship. The Department of Accounting and Finance has been ranked no. 1 in U.K. in the Complete University Guide Subject League Table for 2009.
- Faculty of Education: This faculty has various departments providing courses at all levels such as Childhood and Primary Studies, Creative and Aesthetic Studies, Curricular Studies, Educational & Professional Studies, Glasgow school of Social Work, Professional Development Unit, and Sports, culture, and Arts.
- Faculty of Engineering: It is the largest Engineering Faculty in Scotland and one of the UK’s leading centres of Engineering education and research. It provides courses in Architecture, Bioengineering, Chemical and Process Engineering, Civil Engineering, Design, Manufacture &Engineering Management, Electronic & Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. There is also National Centre for Prosthetics and Orthotics and department of Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering.
- Faculty of Law, Arts and Social Sciences: This faculty combines various departments which are English Language Teaching Division, English studies, Geography & Sociology, Government, History, Law, Modern Languages and Psychology.
- Faculty of science: It offers wide range of courses in chemistry (Pure and Applied Chemistry), Computer and Information Sciences, Mathematics & Statistics and Physics. It also includes the Strathclyde Institute of Pharmacy & Biomedical Sciences.
International Programmes
The University of Strathclyde has an English Language Teaching Division (ELTD) that offers wide range of programmes to international students including classes in General English, English for Academic Purposes and Study skills. It provides various pre-study English courses of varying lengths and at different levels throughout the year. The courses are:
- Pre-entry Academic English and Study Skills: An intensive course of around 14 weeks designed for students with a lower starting level of English. It prepares students to improve their standard of English before starting their actual studies. It also provides special IELTS classes if the requirement demands.
- Pre-Sessional Academic English: The international students who are already enrolled in postgraduate or undergraduate study at the university can avail this course available throughout the summer to improve their English language skills in an academic context. It can also be taken as a continuation of the Pre-entry course.
- In-sessional General English and English for Academic Purposes courses: The ELTD also provides in-sessional English language support to international students in form of short courses in a wide range of areas such as academic writing, seminar skills, skills of oral presentations and vocabulary development during the session to help students in improving their English for both studying and everyday communication.
- General English: The University also provides special spring evening classes & summer daytime classes for students who wish to learn General English.
- Post-Graduate Diploma in English for Post graduate studies: International students who want to improve their standard of English that is required to join any postgraduate studies can undertake this fully-accredited programme.
- English for Specific Purposes: These are special courses in areas such as English for Business and English for Law & can be designed according to the requirement of the students.
