The University of Salford is a traditional university only 1.5 miles from Manchester city centre. Established in 1896, it became a full university in 1967 when HRH Prince Philip became its chancellor. Today, it is has reputation for enterprise, innovation, teaching quality and research excellence. It is investing nearly £600 million to improve and expand the campus, including its venture with the world-renowned BBC in the UK’s only MediaCity.
The University of Salford has 12 academic schools: 4 are introduced below. The Salford Business School (SBS) is highly acclaimed and is one of only 162 in the world holding the prestigious AMBA accreditation for its MBA programmes. Many of its MSc programmes are available via a one or two-year route, with the second year being a paid internship (subject to academic performance and employer interview). The School of the Built Environment (SOBE) is the UK’s premier School and offers a full range of construction management, real estate, quantity surveying and low carbon building design related courses. The School of Computing, Science and Engineering specialises in mechanical-engineering based programmes, as well as acoustics, robotics, physics, computer science, petroleum & gas, telecommunications & networks, and many more. The School of Environment and Life Sciences offers highly respected courses including Drug Design, Biotechnology, and Environmental assessment.
