About University of Northumbria
University of Northumbria has originated with the merger of three regional colleges: Rutherford College of Technology, College of Art & Industrial Design and Municipal College of Commerce. Merger of these three institutions formed Newcastle Polytechnic in 1969.Newcastle Polytechnic became major regional centre for training of teachers with incorporation of City College of education in 1974 & northern counties college of education in 1976.Northumbria was inaugurated as a university in 1992.
Campuses
University of Northumbria has two main campuses. They are following:
1. City Campus: This campus is situated in the city of Newcastle upon Tyne. Construction of new building for degree courses such as business has splited this campus in to two parts. It is now known as City Campus East and City Campus West.
2. Coach Lane Campus: This campus is located at a distance of five miles outside Newcastle, on Coach Lane and is known as Coach Lane Campus.
Sports and Activities
University of Northumbria is highly concerned about the fitness of its students. University of Northumbria offers wide range of sporting facilities to its students. University of Northumbria has state of art fitness suite. University of Northumbria allows its former students to use state of art fitness suite for unlimited time period. University of Northumbria is also equipped with extensive range of cardio vascular, resistance and free weight fitness equipments. University of Northumbria has sports clubs which operate at local, regional & national level. University of Northumbria runs fitness classes for its students .University of Northumbria organizes inter- university and intra-university sports for its students. University of Northumbria has student union. Student Union is the heart of student life. Student Union of University of Northumbria is run by students. Student Union provides discount on major stores. Student Union of Northumbria arranges night clubs for students. It is the place where one can become stress free and can make life long friends.

University of Northumbria is located in Newcastle upon Tyne in North East of England with its two campuses situated in Newcastle upon Tyne. Newcastle upon Tyne in north east of England is a regional capital. It is at a distance of two hours and forty minutes away from London. Edinburgh is just one hour away from Newcastle. Newcastle has its own International Airport. Newcastle enjoys temperate climate with hot summers and mild winters with rain.
