About University of Glasgow
University of Glasgow is one of the fourth oldest university in the English speaking world. University of Glasgow traces its origin from 1451 when King James II of Scotland persuaded Pope Nicholas V to grant a lead seal and authorizing Bishop William Turnbull of Glasgow to set up university. University of Glasgow is the second oldest university in Scotland. Earlier University of Glasgow was constructed near the high street. In 1870 University of Glasgow shifted to its current location on Gilmorehill in the west end of city.
University of Glasgow has three main campuses. They are following:
- Gilmorehil Campus: This campus is located in Hillhead.
- Garscube Estate Campus: This campus is located in Bearsden. This campus is known for its veterinary school.
- Crichton campus: This campus is located in Dumfries. It is operated jointly by the University of Glasgow, University of west of Scotland and Open University.
Sports and Activities

University of Glasgow offers extensive & diverse sporting programmes in U.K. University of Glasgow provides sports clubs for its students. These clubs allow students to represent university in all type of sports competitions. University of Glasgow has 46 sports clubs. If students don’t want to join sports clubs then they can participate in friendly recreational leagues, drop in sessions, badminton & squash contact list. Drop in sessions are good way to meet new people, making friends, trying out new activities, participating in sports but not at competitive level. If someone is interested in small sided games then they can join recreational leagues. These leagues are source of maximum fun, enjoyment & physical workout .Footballs 6’s recreational league takes place only during term time at garscube sports complex.
Students can also join exercise classes and gym during there leisure time to keep themselves fit. Stevenson building on gilmorehill provides students with the use of fitness suite, squash courts, sauna & six lane 25m swimming pool. University of Glasgow has team of highly qualified instructors to help students in there sport activities. University of Glasgow has two student unions, the Glasgow University Union (GUU) & Queen Margaret Union (QMU). These unions are largely social & cultural institutions, providing members with the facilities for debating, dinning, recreation, socializing & drinking.
Location And Weather

University of Glasgow is linked with marvelous rail and road links. Glasgow International Airport is situated at a distance of seven miles to the west of University. University of Glasgow is linked to all major cities through rail. It takes 5 hours to reach London by rail. The nearest suburban railway station Patrick, is situated at a distance of one mile from west of University of Glasgow. Mostly there are winters in Glasgow. One can see snowfall there. It is recommended to bring warm clothes such as long over coat, gloves etc to protect oneself from chilled weather conditions.
