About University of Essex
 
University of Essex is a British campus university. In July 1959, Essex County Council accepted a proposal of establishing a university in the country. University promotion committee submitted a formal application to the university grants committee requesting that University of Essex should be established. Promotion committee had recommended Hylands Park in Chelmsford as the site for the university. However in May 1961, foundation of the university was announced in the House of Commons with wivenhoe as the preferred location & in December of same year Wivenhoe Park was selected and acquired for the new university. Finally University of Essex was established in 1963.Its first professor was appointed in May 1963. Main Campuses of University of Essex are following:
  • Colchester Campus : This campus is situated at Wivenhoe campus.
  • Loughton Campus : This campus is located close to rich cultural diversity of London. It is close to Epping Forest, often used for leisure pursuits like walking, running etc
  • Southend Campus : This campus is based in the heart of Southend-On-Sea. It is adjacent to the towns train station.
Sports & Activities
University of Essex is highly concerned about fitness of its students. University of Essex provides sports centre for its students. This sport centre provides wide range of indoor and outdoor facilities for its students. University of Essex is equipped with versatile sports hall, aerobics studio, synthetic pitch, climbing wall, cricket and football fields, tennis court, jogging tracks etc. University of Essex also has fitness centre. Fitness centre is equipped with extensive free weight area and good range of cardio vascular machines. University of Essex has Student Union. It provides student's opportunity to participate in working of university. Student Union allows student's to access various societies and clubs. It is the place where students can relax from there studies and can make good friends. Student Union runs Advice Centre for students. It is a shop where students can get advice free of charge. Advice student centre is equipped with trained and professional staff. All advice is kept confidential.
Location and Weather
Colchester and Southend campuses are 50 minutes by train from London. They are connected by excellent rail and road links across south east. Loughton campus is just five minutes from the nearest London underground station, Debden. Weather is mostly warmest and driest .Certain areas have semi- arid weather.
