Courses

University of Essex has four faculties .There are seventeen departments within these faculties. Main departments of University of Essex are following:

1. Department of Art ,History and Theory: This department offers wide range of courses both at graduate and postgraduate level. This Department is recognized both nationally and internationally. This department is known for research and teaching. This department provides courses in the field of art and architecture of present, immediate and renaissance period, installation, film and video, paintings and sculptures etc.
   
   
2. Department of Biological Sciences: Department of Biological Sciences is one of the largest science departments in the university. This department provides courses at undergraduate and postgraduate level. It provide courses in the field of biology, ecology, conservation & marine sciences, masters in environmental resource management, Msc Cardiac rehabilitation, Msc in molecular medicine etc.
   
   
3. Department of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering : This department provides high quality of teaching from bachelors degrees to doctorate across wide range of subjects. It provides wide variety of courses in the field of computer networking and telecommunication, human computer interfacing, computational finance, multimedia and video etc.
   
   
4. Department of Acting School : This department provide professional training for those wishing to work in theatre, film, T.V, radio and other related fields.
   
   
5. Department of Economics: This department is known for its world class reputation of teaching and research of economics. It offer courses in the field of BSc economics, BA economics with French, B.A Financial Economics, MSc in International Economics, Msc in Management Economics etc.
   
   
6. Department of Business School : Business School provides excellent opportunities for developing new interdisciplinary research initiatives. Business School provides courses in the field of accounting, entrepreneurship and innovation, finance, management and marketing.
   
   
7. Department of Government: Department of government has been ranked top politics department in U.K by research assessment exercise. This school provides courses in the field of social sciences, politics and sociology.
   
   
8. Department of Health and Human Sciences : This department is a new multi-disciplinary department. This is known for its high quality of teaching, training and research programmes. It offers courses in the field of Bsc Nursing, Bsc occupational therapy, Bsc physiotherapy, Msc adult nursing, Msc mental health etc.
   
   
9. Department of History: This department offers wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the field of BA in modern history, film history, diplomas in social and cultural history etc.
   
   
10. Department of International Academy : This school provides undergraduate and postgraduate courses .These courses are basically for International Students. This school offers certificates, diplomas and masters degree in teacher training which can be studied part time over four years or for full one year.
    
    
11. Department of Language and Linguistics: This department provides courses in the field of theoretical and descriptive linguistics, psycholinguistics, sociolinguistics, applied linguistics etc In modern languages it offer wide range of programmes in French, German, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese .Its courses focuses on proficiency, cultural awareness and professional skills.
    
    
12. Department of Law: This department offers undergraduate, postgraduate and research postgraduate courses. It provide wide variety of courses in the field of public law and human rights, commercial and trade law, child and medical law, laws governing the use of digital and communications technology etc.
    
    
13. Department of Literature, film and theatre studies: This school offers degrees in literature, film, drama and creative writing.
    
    
14. Department of Mathematical Sciences : Mathematics is one of the original department of University of Essex. This school provides wide range of courses in calculus, statistics, linear mathematics, further calculus, linear algebra, applied mathematics etc.
    
    
15. Department of Philosophy : This school provides undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral research programmes. It provide courses in the field of BA philosophy and film, MA philosophy ,politics and environmental issues, sociology and environment etc.
    
    
16. Department of Psychology : This department offers courses in the field of BA/BSc in psychology, MSc programmes in Neuropsychology, MSc in Neuroscience, MSc in Psychology etc.
    
    
17. Department of Sociology : This school provides graduate, postgraduate and research programmes. It provides wide range of courses in the field of social theory, gender, media, culture, globalization, migration, human rights, criminology etc.
    

International Programmes

University of Essex provides certain courses for International Students. It provides following courses for International Students:

1. Pre-Sessional English course: University of Essex provides this course for those International Students who wish to improve there English before starting there degree course. Length of this course depends upon English level of students and proficiency requirement of university.
   
   
2. Graduate Diploma in Applied Linguistics with English for Academic purpose: This programme is designed for those International Students who wish to improve there language and study skills before going on to masters programme.
   
   
3. Undergraduate Foundation Programme (Bridging Year )Course : This course provides opportunity to International Students to improve there English language and to supplement there previous studies before starting there undergraduate degree course from University of Essex. This course provides opportunity to International Students to become full member of University of Essex and they can avail all the facilities provided by University of Essex.
   
   
4. Certificate of Higher Education : The three – term certificate of higher education is designed for students seeking entry into second year of undergraduate degrees in specific subjects offered by University of Essex. Subjects taught in certificate course are equivalent to those taught in first year of degree course of University of Essex. International Students must have good academic record at senior secondary/ high school or at junior college level.
   
   
5. Course for Dependents of International Students: University of Essex provide English classes for relatives of International Students. These classes are free of cost. International Students can join this programme at any during the year.
